The Caltrans District 3 Headquarters is a Design-Build effort for the State of California with the Turner and AC Martin Partners team charged with this commission. The new 230,000 gsf, 5-story office building will feature loft-like open offices with high ceilings and natural lighting for Caltrans administration, design and engineering studios. The facility is being designed to house 776 Caltrans employees and includes a 200-seat auditorium, public service counters, teleconferencing facilities, childcare center and a cafeteria with outdoor tables and canvas awnings. The structure is designed using a hybrid, precast concrete frame and exterior skin incorporating post-tensioned cables at the exterior frame.
MatriScope provided earthwork observation during construction which included providing supplemental geotechnical recommendations for Building Foundation, Building Over Excavation, Sidewalks/Parking Areas, and Basement Demolition. In addition, MatriScope provided all building code compliance, special inspection and material testing related to precast concrete, post-tensioned concrete, structural concrete, epoxy anchors, masonry, and structural steel.
